Mount Healthy Urban Tree Commission

In 2010 a group of citizens who wanted to see more trees planted in this community began meeting to discuss the possibility of creating a tree commission for our city. The Mt. Healthy Urban Tree Commission was officially established as part of the City of Mt. Healthy by City Council in 2011 by City Ordinance 11-1622.  We are an all-volunteer group, with mentoring by the Dept of Urban Forestry, Ohio Division of Natural Resources.

Our mission: to preserve and increase Mt. Healthy’s “urban forest”.  What we do: plant trees, do follow-up care for those trees, advise homeowners on tree-related questions, (if we don’t have the answer, we’ll find someone who does,) help get the proper guidance for the city regarding tree-related concerns, educate our community on the value of trees, hold Arbor Day events and tree sales.

Our goals: to restore the trees to our streets and yards

We offer assistance with tree selection and care, as well as advice on what to do about tree problems. Our goal is to aid both the city and private homeowners in putting more trees into our landscape. Under this ordinance, the Commission has three members, appointed by the mayor.

Our current members are:  *Karen Arnett *Judy Harmon *Sandy Young

We invite you to join us, as a commissioner or a volunteer!

Current News and Events

Fall 2017 tree planting project has been awarded a grant.

A Mt. Healthy Fall 2017 tree planting project has been awarded a grant by Taking Root Cincinnati for the purchase of street trees. We’ll receive $880 for 22 Zelkova ‘Green Vase’ to be planted on the west side of Perry Street. The planting date we’re aiming for is October 14th. This will be the second street in Mt. Healthy that will be lined with trees by the city’s tree program. Maple Avenue was the first, planted in Fall 2014. Thank you Taking Root for your support!

Share your skills

We're all volunteers in this effort, and we welcome anyone who values a tree-filled community. We have members who contribute time and expertise in a wide variety of ways.

You probably have a skill that we can use. We need good ideas and willing workers to make this a green, tree-filled community.

Donate Funds

Your monetary contribution will help make our community more green and inviting.

In these difficult economic times, our city's priorities are on essential services, so we're counting on residents to see the importance of this effort and help bring more trees to our neighborhoods.

Plant a Tree in Your Yard

We can offer help and expertise on tree selection, planting, and care. Even the best tree won't do well in a poorly chosen location.

We also hope to assist homeowners in finding the best prices on trees by locating good inexpensive sources and, possibly, by going for large-order discounts. Watch this website for further information on these efforts.

Share Information

A big part of our mission is to educate the public about the importance of trees and proper tree care.

You can help with our educational program aimed at school children or just help spread the word among your neighbors about what we do. Every resident of our community who sees the importance of trees can help us in our efforts.
